During this year's World Cup, 15 countries will broadcast the event in 4K ultra-high definition, including the Netherlands.
During the World Cup, NPO, a Dutch public broadcaster, will cooperate with distributors to provide UHD broadcasting version of the event. To watch UHD content from distributors (satellite, cable, or IPTV), viewers need to prepare a suitable set of TV set-top boxes and TVs. It is estimated that tens of thousands of Dutch spectators are qualified to watch the UHD World Cup.
KPN will provide 4K version of NPO1 to 4K set-top box users in its IPTV interactive service.
NPO said that it would cooperate with NOS, EBU and Belgian broadcaster VRT to broadcast the World Cup. The second stage standard of DVB UHD-1 will be adopted for UHD signal, in which 4K resolution, HLG high dynamic range and wide color gamut refer to BT2020 standard.
In October last year, FIFA said that all 64 matches would be produced in ultra-high definition HDR format for the first time.
According to FIFA, 37 cameras will be arranged at the competition site, including 8 cameras with dual outputs of UHD/HDR and 1080p/SDR, and 8 cameras with dual outputs of 1080p/HDR and 1080p/SDR.
